Kagan Co-operative Learning
At Willow Tree, the whole curriculum is underpinned by Kagan co-operative learning. Kagan structures help children engage in their learning and give them opportunities to collaborate in a variety of ways as well as work independently. PIES (positive interdependence, individual accountability, equal participation and simultaneous interaction) principles are employed through the structures in order to develop the necessary attributes for children to succeed both now and in their next stages of education whilst preparing them for future employment. This teaching approach is pivotal in developing a range of thinking and social skills whilst fostering mastery of a variety of academic content.
Here are some examples of some of the Kagan structures we use in the classroom.
